Steam locomotive - Wikipedia

A steam locomotive is a rail vehicle that provides the force to move itself and other vehicles by means of the expansion of steam.: 80 It is fuelled by burning combustible material (usually coal, oil or – now rare – wood) to heat water in the locomotive's boiler to the point when it becomes gaseous and its volume increases 1700 times. Functionally, it is a steam engine on wheels.

Pellet fuel - Wikipedia

The energy content of wood pellets is approximately 4.7 – 5.2 MWh/tonne (~7450 BTU/lb), 14.4-20.3 MJ/kg.. High-efficiency wood pellet stoves and boilers have been developed in recent years, typically offering combustion efficiencies of over 85%. The newest generation of wood pellet boilers can work in condensing mode and therefore achieve 12% higher efficiency values.

Is it cheaper to heat my home with gas or electricity

Jun 07, 2018 · Obviously if the unit price is 0p/kWh or negative it is cheaper to heat with electricity than gas. At what unit price would it become equal to heat with gas or electricity? My gas cost 2.56p/kWh and I have a non condensing boiler (I'm guessing around 60% efficiency). Would it therefore be 2.56x(100/60)=4.27p/kWh?
